1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime
The American Cancer Society, the Dallas and Fort Worth Dermatological Societies, four participating area medical centers, and the American Academy of Dermatology are offering DFW Metroplex residents an opportunity to have their suspicious skin spots checked during the Melanoma/Skin Cancer Screening.
The American Cancer Society estimates that there will be 4,020 new cases of melanoma in Texas in 2012. Incidence rates for melanoma, one of the deadliest types of skin cancer, have been increasing for at least 30 years. Melanoma is about 98% curable if caught in its earliest stages and treated. Most basal and squamous cell cancers can be cured, especially if the cancer is detected and treated early.
