LISMORE MP?Thomas George has congratulated the Richmond River Historical Society on its successful application for local history project funding through the Royal Australian Historical Society.

The funding will be used by the local group?to research and publish a revised version of the booklet "Dunoon 2480".

"Local historical societies and community groups play an important role in helping all people - particularly younger generations - understand our history, learning stories of national and local significance," Mr George said.

43 organisations throughout NSW will share in $41,900 in grants for local history projects.

The funding program supports small grants to historical societies and community groups across NSW to assist with the research, writing and publication of a wide range of local history projects.

The NSW Government devolves funding of these small grants through the Royal Australian Historical Society.

The Royal Australian Historical Society is a voluntary organisation founded in Sydney in 1901 to encourage Australians to understand more about their history.
